Cyber Smile Sale & New Products Posted

I will be having a Mega Cyber Smile Sale this Monday, November 30th and Tuesday, December 1st. Stop by and save on some teaching resources and don't forget to use the code: smile. I will be stocking up on some of my favorite teachers pay teachers authors products and adding to my clipart collection.

I have been extremely busy on creating products for my classroom to start implementing as soon as we return back from Thanksgiving Break. When we return back from the break, my kiddos will be continuing to be immerse in the realistic fiction genre. I have chosen two incredible books to use which my kiddos can relate too. "Earrings" by Judith Viorst is a hilarious book that even I can relate too. Every child has had something they really wanted but our parent always had some excuse to why we can't get it. This book will bring smiles to my students as they think about a time they wanted something very badly. In edition to our realistic fiction unit, my kiddos have been writing personal narrative pieces to go along with our realistic units. Each of the books I've been reading to my students lend itself to the personal narrative structure. They have been impressing me with their writing talents every time they produce a piece of writing. (Click on the picture)

Another book I will be introducing in a few weeks is "Ordinary Mary's Extraordinary Deed" by Emily Pearson. This book will capture my students hearts by going out and producing good deeds for others and expecting nothing in return. I fell in love with this book the first time I read it. This book would be great to introduce this holiday season of giving. As Christmas would be here before we know it, I would like my kiddos to understand that we have the power to change to world for the better through a simple act of kindness. My goal this December is for my kiddos to conduct random acts of kindness throughout my classroom and school-wide. (Click on the picture)

Veteran's Day Celebration

This Wednesday, we take a moment to think about the brave men and women who served, still serving, or given their life to the United States Armed Forces. I would like to share with you a Veteran's Day Mini Unit to get you ready for Veteran's Day.

Every year, I enjoy teaching my students about veteran's and the sacrifice they make for our freedom.
There are many great read aloud books that teach students about this national holiday.

Here are some great activities included in my veteran's day mini unit.

Veteran's Day Hat
This year, my campus is going to have a Veteran's Day Parade called Our Heroes Our Parade. My kiddos will be rocking this super cute hat during the parade.

Creative Writing
It is essential for students to response to new understandings. This is a great opportunity for students to response through writing on any new information or new learning they retained during your veteran's day instruction.

Veteran's Day Activity Book
Students will be highly engaged in these super cute activities that will reinforce new learning.

Soldier Creative Writing Topper
This creative writing topper will help display your students writing.

Teaching Through the Genre

It has been awhile since my last post but I'm BACK!! I have been trying to find the balance between teaching and the blogging world. When I am not teaching, I am spending my free time creating amazing products that engage my students in the love for learning.

My time has been completely dedicated to creating products for teaching through the genre. My school district has transformed the way we deliver our reading and writing instruction. The professional development book I have been using is Genre Study: Teaching with Fiction and Nonfiction Books by Fountas and Pinnell.

The purpose for teaching through the genre is creating proficient readers who learn how to develop genre understandings and apply their thinking to any genre. Students will be able to learn to think more critically about the decisions authors make as they plan and write text.

The inquiry approach will empower the students to construct new understandings and help teachers teach both reading and writing in a way that make sense for our students and enable them to learn even more about reading and writing.

According to Fountas & Pinnell, genre study brings reading and writing together so that students can "read like writers" and in the process learn to think and talk analytically about text. Genre study through inquiry helps readers incorporate the academic language they need to talk about books with one another.

The first genre I introduced to my students was traditional literature. Traditional Literature consist of fairytales, folktales, fables, legends/epics/ballads, and myths. I have created a group of classic traditional literature products that my students have fallen in love with and in the hopes that your students will to. Each of the traditional literature products I have created are driven by the high standards of the common core and the TEKS (Texas Essential of Knowledge and Skills).

Targeted Reading Skills:
Make predictions
Ask questions
Establish a purpose for reading
Self-monitor
Infer
Determine importance
Retelling
Summarize
Synthesize
Visualize
Sensory language: imagery, mood, word choice

BLASTING OFF TO A GREAT SCHOOL YEAR!!

I have been working non-stop for three weeks getting my classroom ready for my kiddos on Monday. I am completely done. Thank God!!! I would be adding more to my classroom as the school year progresses. I love adding students work around the room the first week.

As I promise on Monday, below are the photo's of what my classroom looks like.

On Thursday, we had Meet the Teacher Night and I was able to meet my incredible class. I was over the moon excited to meet each and every student as they walked into the door.

On Friday, we had our annual convocation kick-off for the entire school district. Every year I look forward to convocation because it motivates teachers before the new school year starts. The hardworking and passionate colleagues I get to work with everyday surrounded me. This also includes my new grade level.

I am ready to Blast Off To Another Great School Year!!

My Classroom Tour & TPT One Day SALE

For the last two weeks, I have been cleaning, unpacking, and reorganizing my new classroom. Did I tell you this was done with no A/C? Can you believe it? I have been sweating like a melting snowman. The A/C will not kick in until teachers are back on contract.

Below are the pictures I took when I first walked into my classroom. I have my word cut-out for me. There is a lot of work that needs to be done before my kiddos walk into the door on August 24th.

My goal for fixing my classroom was to organize the cabinets and closets because I was moving into a new classroom. All of my teaching materials were in boxes. Put the furniture where I wanted it to go such as student tables, kidney table, classroom library, supply station, workstations, and teacher station. After completing these task, the fun stuff starts to begin. You know what fun stuff I am talking about??? DECORATING!!!! Making this classroom come to life.

I haven't had much time to decorate this week due to the amount of trainings I had scheduled. I plan to work non-stop on my classroom this week. I will continue to post my classroom reveal once it's finally complete this weekend.
Below are photos of what my classroom currently looks like.

STAY TUNE!!!!
